Carbapenems are broad spectrum antibiotics, which are used for treatments of complicated infections in clinical.

Broad-spectrum antibiotics work against different kinds of bacteria, such as G (+), G (-) bacteria and anaerobic bacteria.

Carbapenems are member of the beta lactam antibiotics. The first product was launched at 1985 named as Imipenem and Cilastatin. Subsequently Meropenem, Ertapenem and Doripenem were developed.

The formulations of carbapenem are prescription drugs which have to be used by doctor permission only.
