Its pharmacological action is binding to the PBPs of bacterial cell walls and inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell walls. As a cell wall synthesis inhibitor, it can kill Gram-negative bacteria and Gram-positive bacteria that are susceptible to Imipenem. 

The main antibacterial ingredient of this drug is Imipenem, while Cilastatin is used to block the metabolism of Imipenem by the kidneys, increasing the concentration of Imipenem in the urinary tract and deteriorating its antimicrobial activity.

At present, the patent of this medicine has expired and there are well-known drugs listed in the United States or other countries. Carbapenems are highly sensitized and belong to prescription drugs and may not be used unless directed by a physician.
